Project Autumn

Project Autumn was an idea I had in 2013 to create a software solution to track my income and outgoings. As a proof of concept, I created a spreadsheet with virtual “pots” to budget for different things. A few tweaks over time, some nice graphs and a VB script to make moving money between pots easy, and there never seemed to be much reason to developer it further. Excel is pretty damn powerful.

I have tentative plans to make a web app for it so I can update my budget easily from anywhere, rather than my current system of updating a spread sheet twice a month. Realistically though I can’t see myself doing this reliably, so a batch update in Excel is probably easier. Another option is some sort of direct hook into API’s provided by banks, but I don’t know if those are a thing for non-business accounts and frankly the security implication of that scare me.
